his & hers vintage raleigh bicycles (mid / late 1960's). here's the plan: take them apart, paint them, put them back together, tune them up, add stuff (brooks leather saddles, leather grips, vintage pedal powered headlights, metal / wicker baskets and the perfect bells). see more "before" photos here.
I'm doing the same with an old schwinn. There is nothing like the type of love labour that goes into bike making. xo

I had a raleigh bike back in the 70s. I think I got it for my 12th birthday so late 70s. But it was quite big for me. 3 speeds, green. Wish I had it now!

mary: i know what you mean - it was a tough decision... BUT, we found original raleigh bike decals - so we will be able to replace them!

Sort of sad to do away with the original paint jobs, especially on that men's one. It has a very Dutch look to it and Raleigh's have such a nice font, I've always thought. But...I can understand the appeal of customization and those wicker baskets sound pretty dreamy.

Oh cool!
Here in Houston they have a bike workshop where people can come and restore old bikes and donate them to inner city kids without bikes of their own. Then when you've finished theirs, you get to make one for yourself!

Those are so fun! I have a similar bike and the best part was shopping for all of the little accessories. I have a baby deer bicycle bell and the sweetest basket on the planet! :)
